Ask a Local
Before your trip, ask someone who actually lives here.
Planning a trip to Japan can be easy at first — until you start making real choices.
How many days should you spend in Tokyo?
Is your budget realistic?
Should you spend more on hotels or food?
Is that famous destination really worth adding to your route?
With Ask a Local, you can ask me about your trip before you come to Japan.
For example, I can help you think through:
what kind of trip fits your budget and the number of days you have
roughly what level of hotel and meals you can expect for that budget
whether your itinerary feels too rushed or too slow
which places may suit you depending on whether your priority is food, nature, culture, shopping, onsen, or simply taking it easy
whether you should spend more time in one place and skip another
questions about restaurants, transport, reservations, language, or local customs
going deeper into anything covered in the Deep Guides, including how it applies to your own trip
choices where you simply want to know: “What would a Japanese local choose?”
If I give you a rough budget or sample travel plan, international airfare is not included, and all estimated costs will be shown in Japanese yen (JPY).
Ask a Local is for the planning stage before your trip, while you are still deciding what kind of Japan you want to experience. It is not a real-time service while you are traveling in Japan.

5 spots available each month
One exchange means one message from you and one reply from me.
I won’t plan every minute of your trip for you.
But I can give you a local perspective, help you compare your options, and tell you what I would choose — and why.
How it works
1. Tell me briefly about your trip and what you’d like help with.
2. If a spot is available, you’ll receive instructions to get started.
3. We can then have up to 5 exchanges over one month.
